Faculty Associate Sangeetha Madhavan publicly releases data on kinship, nuptiality, and child development in Nairobi, Kenya

Sangeetha Madhavan and her research team have publicly released data from the JAMAA na AFYA ya MTOTO (JAMO) project.  
The JAMO project is a longitudinal mixed methods study which examines how kinship and marriage as a process benefit child development in two informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya.  The study contains six rounds of survey data collected from mothers of young children and three rounds of longitudinal qualitative data collected from a sub-sample of mothers and fathers. The study has found that extended kin support benefits child outcomes, support from grandmothers can support maternal mental wellbeing, and marriage in these contexts should be understood as a process.
